We had to read his story, "secret diary" and the second to last passage confused me. He said twice he "rogered his wife" what does that mean?

Byrd usually wrote of what books he read, what he ate, he wrote of the fights he and his wife got into, he recorded when he “rogered his wife,” (code word for sex) and he ended each entry with a praise to God for his health and happiness.
