Well, if you just want to look through a telescope then try contacting the Hampshire Astronomical Group amateur astronomy association. They have a little observatory in Clanfield, which is off the A3 between Petersfield and Portsmouth. Here is their website:
http://www.hantsastro.org.uk/
They actually have fixed domes and everything with one 24 inch telescope as their largest.
If you go to "Future Events" it looks like they have an open house on the 12th of October. It is about a 51 minute drive going through Portsmouth and then back up north according to Google Maps.
There might be a closer amateur group with open viewing nights. If there is, I bet the folks in the Hampshire Astronomical Group will know where it is. Contact them!

Southampton University is probably closest to Chandler's Ford, however if you include Radio telescopes then Chilbolton Down between Winchester and Andover a government funded meteorological observatory may also be of interest.
Southampton University has an outreach programa and may have a local observatory, I was unable to track it down but saw pictures of it. There is also Southampton Astronomical society - see link for details. If you have links with IBM labs in Hursley they have their own Astronomy society.
