Sorry I meant to write inequality , of course.

And he meant social inequality, is that context enough?

I don't know in what context his remark was made, but if it you are quoting it out of context, and taking it purely at face value, you may be missing the point.

We don't live in a perfect world. If we did, then his statement would be incendiary, I'm sure. As it is, he just sounds like a realist, not a good reason to refuse to cast a vote if he is otherwise a good man.

For what it's worth, inegality IS an incentive. Both to those who strive to overcome it personally, and to those in leadership roles who must try to find ways to rid the societies in which they lead of unjust inequities and discrimination.

However, I won't give up on the idea of that perfect world, even though there are those who say that equality across the board would only lead to a disastrous complacency, and is anethema to human survival. Your Mr. McDowell may be one of those. He may be correct, but I'd surely like to give it a try.

inegality is important in some areas but not all. Slavery is a horrible thing and I would not allow that just to encourage competition . However, I agree that this seems to have been taken out of context.

He's right. Who would do anything in a world where there was no reason to?
