I'm a kiwi currently in the UK for 2 years but I had to work bloody hard to get here and I don't bludge off the government. How can you let these unemployed bulgarians and others in who don't speak english and aren't willing to work?! I say let those in that have a trade and will improve the country, not take money off the tax payers!

FOR. There are so many reasons why immigration is a good thing for the UK. I am exhausted by how narrow minded the 'Daily Mail set' are about this issue. But lets look at a very simple piece of evidence: Has the UK recently seen an increase in immigration? - Yes. Is the UK economy still growing? - Yes.

Well even if you wanted to, you cannot stop immigration. Due to having an imperial past i.e. the British Empire, we created links with many countries who have a right to come to this country.
Personally I am in favour of sustainable immigration, bearing in mind that Great Britain, in keeping with Europe has an ageing population and if left unchecked would leave a heavy burden on the younger generation to look after a vastly increased elderly population. Also, variety is the spice of life and helps to maintain a healthy lively population. Just my opinion!

So first of all, what do you mean by immigration? Are you referring to ANYONE coming into the country to live and work or are you talking about illegal immigration?
It's very easy for us to sit here and say that we're against immigration and we shouldn't let anyone in. But let's look at history. We are a polyglot nation formed over the centuries by invasion, conquest and, yes, immigration. Very few people in the country can say with any validity that their ancestors all came from the UK. With that in mind, you have to view immigration more openly.
Should we limit the number of people coming in? yes - and we already do.
Should we stop people coming in when fleeing oppression? no - and we already allow them in
Should we have a plan for dealing with them in such a way as to help them without alienating the current population? yes - and that's the tricky one!

Well it depends. If they are coming into the country to boost up the economy then yeah I for immigration. Also if they are fleeing their country through fear then they are welcome. But if they are coming he are with all there family sponging off the state not getting off their backside and doing something then I am against.
So 80% for and 20% against

200% for it, because in the news lunch time today, 4000 jobs yet again going to the cheap labour country. It's either immigration or job haemorrhages which is it to be.

I'm for positive immigration.... which by my definition is ship in what we need... dentists, doctors, nurses, teachers, electricians, plumbers..... wherever they are from, whatever their skin colour, whatever their religion.
A little like what Australia did recently, give preference to the skill sets the country needed.
