Best thing to do is set up a Yahoo e-mail for him - and if he's a child - make sure you designate him as one - so he doesn't get junk.
Actually, if you have XP, you can have him log on as 'guest' and give him limited access - and set parential security - if he's underage. You have to be administrator to do that or boot to safe mode and log on as administrator.

Most ISP's (Internet Service Providers) will allow you to have multiple e-mail addresses for other family members. Check that out with them on the phone or from their web site. I am allowed 7 addresses that way. If you are using Outlook Express, Microsoft Outlook, Incredimail or any other program for your e-mail then you can click on File and go down to manage identities and set up a new e-mail account from it.
If your e-mail account is with Yahoo or with Hotmail, just go there and click on new account setup and you will be in business. You can have a million e-mail accounts with Yahoo or MSN's Hotmail, and they can all be on one computer. Also, many sites that you might visit offer free e-mail at their places too. It is almost limitless how many places have free e-mail services. In my particular case, I have one e-mail at Comcast. I made another one there be adding an identity for my wife, one at Yahoo.com, one at Hotmail.com, and one at iwon.com (where I play games). Check out the possibilities. iwon.com has adware, but I put up with that because I like the games there.
I hope you have success with it. I bet your step son knows a lot about computers because they learn them from the first time they enter school, so I think he could probably help you out with that unless he is very very young.

Hello, There are 2 types of email accounts:
1) web mail like hotmail.com yahoo.com etc. This type can be checked from any computer with an internet connection anywhere in the world.
2) or you can use outlook on your pc, it comes as standard on most Windows pcs and can also be downloaded from microsoft website. This service can only be accessed through the computer on which it was configured with out setting up sophisticated network (Virtual private network, also refered to as tunneling)
In my humble opinion the best option for your grandson is to set one up with hotmail.com or yahoo.com.
Just point your browser to one of these sites and click on mail and signup, then fill in the forms, choose usernames and passwords etc.
This way he can check his account when he is not at your house .
Hope that helps
