i have been having contractions since about 11:30 last night. they are 3-5 mins apart lasting from 45 secs. to a min. and a half approx. they were getting worse last night and i was ready to go to the hospital but decided to try to get some rest first. they havent gotten any worse since they but havent really subsided either...should i be getting ready to go into real labor any time now or am i just experiencing braxton hicks??

Are you dialated? Get your husband/boyfriend/baby's daddy to check (if you trust him). If he feels your cervix opening up, it's time to head to the hospital.

Those are not braxton hicks. Braxton Hicks only last about 2 hours. You are in labor, you need to call your doctor, and get to the hospital now.
I did the exact same thing lol. Waited hours before calling in or doing anything, timing etc. My doctor nearly freaked because I waited so long. Don't worry about getting rest, you won't be able to.
Some on here mentioned that your contractions have to be really bad...not true!! I was in labor, only dilated to 1 (doctor had checked and I wasn't even dilated 3 days before!), my contractions were nice and easy, which is what fooled me. They didn't get strong even until they used Pitocin to make me dilate.
Get yourself together and get out the door.
Good luck and I hope things go well with you!

Yes go to the hospital, with them being 3-5 mins apart you could be getting ready to bring a baby into the world, and I am sure you don't want to do it at home. Have your husband or boyfriend take you, driving puts a lot of pressure on you that you really don't need right now.

I was in light labour for about 24 hours I didn't even know until the doctor told me she told me to come in when they become five min apart to go to the hospital. they were still light the next morning so they induced me, and i had my son four hours later.

Light labour can last a long time and most don't know that they are even in labour.

If your water has broken I would go to the hospital right away because something could be wrong. Even if you just go to the hospital they would be able to give you the proper info.

Good Luck

Usually you should go to the hospital once the contractions reach 5 minutes apart. Sounds to me like your in labor. Go to the hospital so they can check to see if your dialating normally.

Sounds like Braxton-Hicks. If it's real labor it should get worse (more painful) and the contractions should get closer together. You could check with your doctor. If your water breaks, go to the hospital.

If you are able to sit and type on the computer, they are probably braxton hicks contractions. When real contractions come and are 3-5 minutes apart, you won't feel like doing anything but getting the little one OUT.

that happened to my brothers girlfriend. She had really bad contractions and she was only dilated 1 cm. So she went home and around 12:30 that night she woke me up and begged me to take her to hospital. She was only 1 1/2 cm. But they admitted her cuz they were really painful. So i would just wait it out a little bit until they get a little bit closer!!! Good Luck with the little one!

how many weeks are you? Braxton hicks go away when you eat, drink or walk around, and they are also not timeable. You can always go up there just in case. Good luck.
