Do portable water well drilling machines work? To what depth do the wells usually go?

I thought all well machines were portable, since they all come in on the back of a truck?

I know the ones around here on the backs of trucks dig to about 3k feet all together.

They work very well. as to the depth of the hole it depends on your property water table,they hit water at different levels. They charge by the foot mostly. Another factor is what type of water and if a filtering system will be needed. I would ask around your area to find out if someone else has had this done and how their water is due to mineral deposits.

all well drilling machines are portable as they are removed when the well is drilled as far as the depth of the well it depends on where you live. Mine is over 300 feet deep

Well, they work, but this option may or may not be for you. Different areas (state, county, city) have different regulations on what you can do or not do to tap the aquafer, so check on these regulations first. Some may require the well shaft to be lined, and this may be difficult for a do it yourselfer. Also, know what kind of well pump you will use before you drill, and what requirements it has.

depends on how deep your water table is, some are as deep as 300 ft then others 40 feet.
