I have a new HP laptop running XP. I have two desktops running XP that are currently networked via a LinksysG (model WRT54GS v4). The network is encrypted with WEP. I have been able to add the laptop to the network and access the internet but I am having trouble accessing the shared printers and files on the desktops from the laptop. I can see the laptop from the other computers when I view the workgroup, but I can't see the other computers when I view the workgroup from the laptop. When I have tried to add a shared printer I get a message that I may not have permission....contact the administrator). I have stepped through the help files several times with no success. PLEASE HELP!

work groups are such a pain the booty
here are a few things you can try
try this- make sure the same user name and password exist on the laptop and on the pc with the printers
try this- make sure the printer dirver is installed on the lap top
try this- right click on the printer from the pc it is attached to-choose properties-then the security tab-click add and find your account on the laptop and give your self permission to use the printer
hopefully one of those will work and those are not in any particular order
good luck

Sounds like your 90% there..... Make sure you have administrator rights on all machines.

Don't mess around with other computer configurations. The new one should jump on the network once you give it the WEP password.

Keep in mind that the NEW computer needs the printer driver of the printer loaded locally. ... so you may have to "add network printer'..... Remember you most likely will have to 'copy the printer driver (should ask for it automatically) when you try to print to the 'shared printer'.

I take it that the two desktops can share files??? Try checking all computers and make sure you have C drive "shared" (right mouse button on C drive and 'share') .... You can try that temporarily and then unshare if you want - and only share certain folders within the C drive (depending on who uses the computer.

I have a Dell laptop, and I TOO am having this problem. I tried to no end yesterday to get the laptop to see the other computers and the printer. Both of my other computers can see the laptop. I can print from one computers printer to another, but from my laptop, all I can do is sur the internet. If you come up with an answer, let me know. My laptop does see my network, but the other computers don't come up, just that it is on a Microsoft network (I have a Microsoft router-wireless)
