Yes I have had to do that and I sure felt horrible.

I was stressed the night before knowing I had to do it.....but felt better afterwards as it was the right thing to do.

The joys of management!

I have had to fire many people. Working in a small company <25 I get to know people well and we are dependent on the automotive company (meaning more firings lately).
I usually use the term "laid-off" because they will get unemployment right away. The thing that bugs me the most is that due to the legal times, I can't really sit down with these people and say, "This is what you did wrong." It doesn't really help people to improve if they are always thinking that the company is the jerk that laid them off.
I can't say it ever gets easier but I would be afraid if I ever allowed myself to not feel for the people.

I have had to fire lots of people, sometimes one at a time, other times I have sacked whole teams..

It is never nice, but it is the reason why companies pay managers more money, part of the job unfortunately

YES!!! Didn't bother me at all to fire the ones who deserved getting fired. The only time I despised firing was when I had to left those go who just couldn't seem to do the job.

Actually yes I have fired somebody and it felt good cause they never showed up and were not worth a thing. If it was somebody who was a good worker I would of felt bad but this person wasn't and he never showed up so he got what was coming to him♥

I have, it doesn't bother me when the person deserves being fired, like after they have been warned that something will not be tolerated any longer. I have never fired anyone who has not deserved it.

Absolutely you feel bad. You fire people for a reason though. I always feel bad about getting rid of someone. If it benefits you and your company you gotta do what you gotta do. Who knows if it ever gets easier.

Maybe give the person a call and see if they're doing okay or if you hear of another job opening you could tell them about it

Yes I have. I felt bad for a long time. but this employee had been warned and I even gave him another chance and he blew that. I knew it was not my fault. And I bet this situation is not your fault either. Cheer up.
