Of course it does. It falls, it vibrates the air surrounding it. Therefore it makes a sound.

Just because a human is not there, to become aware of the noise does not mean it does not happen. Think of all the birds, racoons, squirills and lizards around. They are certainlyly capable of hearing the sound.

For a mind experiment, try to imagine the scenario of a tree falling: the crack of wood splintering, the whoosh of the tree falling, the crash against the ground and pieces of dirt and dust settling on the leaves and branches.

Now, take away each animal type, one by one. In your mind, eliminate the lizards, the butterflies and other bugs, the squirills, the chipmunks, the birds. As you imagine each type of species not there, one by one, replay the scene of the falling tree. When you have imagined the last animal who can hear is not there, ask yourself if the same scene can replay itself without sound.

Now, ask again, your original question.

Meanwhile, I find it interesting that "blunt_honesty" does not belive in anything she does not observe for herself. I might safely assume that she has not seen every nation in the world, not every exotic animal. But they do exist.

Perhaps I'm being harsh. I don't mean to accuse her of denying that there are starving children, dying everyday, just because she is not there to see it. I'm just suggesting that she rethink some of her philosophy before spreading that "fertilizer."

If a man is alone in the forest and there's no woman around to hear him, is he still wrong?

If no one was there to see it, did it really fall? Was there even a tree? or a forest? I believe that if it isn't observed by someone, it doesn't exist.

No it doesn't. The word "sound" is a human term to describe the perception of sound waves. If no one hears the sound waves it didn't make a sound.

Of course it does. The world really doesn't need us puny humans around to give it validation.
