Where I was on 9/11/01...
I was going to court to get guardianship of my mom. She had Alzheimer's and was declared legally incompetant. I couldn't stand the state of NC owning my mother, so I retired from the Army and came to NC to take care of her. When we were walking to court from the lawyer's office, the first plane had struck and it was still thought to be an accident. How the world had changed by the time I walked out of court that day....

I was sleeping, and my Mom woke me up to see that a plane had struck one of the towers of the world trade center, and then I watched live as the second plane struck the other tower. I still remember those moments very clearly, as if it happened yesterday. The tragic thing is that this tragedy has led to many more tragedies, as many innocent Muslims and non-Muslims are being harassed/killed as a result of the anger generated by these terrorist attacks. These terrorist attacks were conducted by suicidal individuals, suicide is strictly against the Quran, the Muslim holy book. I researched on why these individuals attacked the world trade center, and found out that it was because many Jews work in the world trade center, and they fund the state of Israel, and the state of Israel is oppressive towards Arab Palestinian nationalism, so these people were fighting for the cause of Arab Palestinian Nationalism, and Nationalism is against Islam, and also the killing of innocent civilians is also strictly forbidden in the Quran, and fighting is only permissible for defending the practice of Islam, and transgression in fighting is condemned in the Quran.
What the terrorists did 5 years ago today, was not for religion, it was for nationalism. No religious scripture would support such indiscriminate killing. Many Muslims died in the World Trade center, and it is strictly forbidden in the Quran, for Muslims to murder other Muslims.
To blame all Muslims or Islam, for what the terrorists did on September 11, 2001, is very wrong, because what they did was completely against Islam, and was done out of Arab nationalist hatred. To blame Muslims or Islam for what the terrorists did is like blaming Christians or Christianity for the white nationalist terrorist attacks commited by the Ku Klux Klan.

I was taking my 5 year old son to school. We live in Jamaica. The radio was on in the car and I heard the news that a plane had crashed into one of the towers. I thought "Oh My God, those people". Shortly afterwards there was news of another crash. I was on my way to work then. Immediately I realised that America was under attack. Needless to say that I could not go to work that morning. I headed back home to watch the news on TV and I cried. My neighbour is a stewardess and I wondered if she was ok. I could feel the pain and loss that was shown on TV. I sat in my livingroom urging the rescue team along. Each time they found someone I prayed that by some miracle they were alive. And even now as I type my eyes are filled with tears. It was gruesome to watch and even more gruesome for those affected. May God rest their souls.

I was a freshman in high school, and was in my 10:00 chorus class. We started warming up, but our teacher came in and told us that a plane had just crashed into one of the world trade centers. We didn't really understand, but he took us into the senior lunchroom (because there wasn't a tv in the bandroom), and let us watch the news coverage until it was break time. After class was over, we all went into the halls and started talking about what had happened. During my 12:00 class, we were still watching the TV, trying to figure out what was going on.

"Between jobs" as a software designer. I sat on the couch for 16 hours with a bottle of tequila & a colling deep dish pizza.
The worst thing I saw in person was F16's (?) flying in an empty sky over Phoenix. I live about 4-5 miles from Sky Harbour airport & normally watch planes take off with monotous regularity. Normally there are private jets & helicopters flying over my house.
Today, I'm "on the bench" as a software designer (difference being I'm still employed & getting paid - but I don't have a project). Got a bottle of tequila & a pizza. Watching stuff on TV, I feel strangely better than I have been - emotionally a bit liberated, strangely.
Sorry but I have to get political - Q. How can we spend a trillion dollars in Iraq & find money to build a "bridge to nowhere" in Alaska. But 5 years on & they are stll fund-raising for a memorial for 40 American heros on United flight 93 ?

At home getting ready for school. I remember being confused because the TV was on, and we never watch TV in the mornings. Half the time, I'd be getting up and my mom would still be in bed, Dad having already gone for work. That day, Mom was up, watching the news, on the phone with her mom.
It didn't actually sink in until half the day had passed. Too much of a shock.

I was in college at the time. I had just got out of the shower and had the TV on when I saw the news. I woke my room mates up so they could see. Instead of going to class, I opted to stay home and watch the events unfold. One of my roomies went to class. He hame back a few minutes later and said classes were canceled for the day. So we all sat glued to the TV all day and drank.

I was recovering at my parents house from surgery a few days before. I was on a quite a bit of pain pills, so when I woke up and saw the news, I really thought it was a dream or hallucination. It wasn't until the 2nd plane crashed that I realized how real this all was. NEVER FORGET!!!

I was driving to college when I heard it on the radio and didn't realize what they meant because they didn't say a commercial jetliner they just said a small plane. But when I got to school and saw the news on TV I realized what had happened and we just sat and watched as both towers fell.
