My mother in law had one this morning. She is doing ok and should be able to come home from the hospital tomorow. I have read a little on it but I want personal experience from those who have had it or know or taken care of someone who has.

i had my hysterectomy 6 weeks ago. i'm fine now. i havent regained all of my previous energy, but that will come with time. the first 5 days were the hardest, i needed someone with me especially when i was taking a shower. its amazing how weak you feel for a while. by 2 weeks i was moving around fairly well, i still couldnt imagine lifting anything at that point. by 4 weeks i was getting antsy from boredom. now at 6 weeks i can do most things for myself. allow her to take it easy for the first 6 weeks, she only has 1 chance to recover correctly the first time.

It depends on how old she is, for one thing, and which kind she had. Did she have it vaginally done, through the navel, or did they cut her, similar to a c-section? If they cut her, obviously she will probably be sore a little longer. Be sure she has a small pillow for her stomach, laughing and coughing are quite painful, pressing the pillow there will help. She should be prepared for "night sweats" and hot flashes, though. Although some women don't want to take hormones, I have been fine taking them, and do not suffer the hot flashes and sweats any more.

She should recover just fine, with the surgery procedures they have now, if she has small incisions she should heal quickly, however watch out for the hot flashes!
