I have a BA and I want to get certified in special ed. I am unsure of how to go about getting certified through the alternate route program. Does anyone know a program to contact or if there is a website besides the DOE?
Any help is greatly appreciated!

I probably should have said that I have a BA in English and not Education.

Because you have a BA you should be able to take a masters course towards certification. This will include student teaching. Contact your local university and they can tell you exactly which classes are required and how long it will take. Some schools will do it in 1 year if there is a great need in the community. Otherwise it can take as long as 2. If you live near more than 1 college then I suggest you look into all of them to see which offers the best program for you.

I suggest going for a MAT-- Master of Arts in Teaching, I know Georgian Court University in Lakewood & Woodbridge (both NJ) offers a 1 year program that gets you dual certified in Reg. & Special Ed. The program statrts at the end of August.
