IT"S EASY!, Go to your local Home Improvement ot hardware store.Tell them you want an "EZ" fix plug.If yours had a ground wire on it,make sure you get one with the same.
Now,to replace it,you'll need a
a) wire cutter/stripper
b) a screwdriver,phillips or reg.
cut the plug off just below the plug itself (OFcourse this is not plugged-in)
take a small sharp knife and remove @ 2" of the outer "skin" of the wire to expose the inner wires. There should be 2 or three wire inside, depending on which continent you live on.Use the wire cutter and remove @ 3/4" of the wire skin from each wire,Open the EZ plug and slide the wires in through the hole of the plug.Loosen the screws on the EZ plug inser the "black" goes into the BRASS screw clamp, White into the SILVER screw clamp and GREEN to the green screw clamp.
Of course this depends on the brand of the plug and if you have 2 or 3 wires.

Brilliant has the answer. However, tell the electrical person at the hardware what you need it for and they will tell you what size plug you need. A vacuum takes a lot more amperage than a light bulb so you need the proper size plug to handle it. Usually there are instructions available in the store, but. if not, use Brilliant's instructions.

You cant fix it. Go to Home Depot, get a new plug. Cut the wire off and strip it, then wrap one side around under the screw, tighten it and do the other side the same way. These plugs normally have a snap on back. Now, you'll have a new one and please don't try to use that old plug, because it's dangerous.

The correct way would be to replace the entire cord!! Of course, one could always cut the plug off and splice a new one on......make sure all wires are sealed with electrical tape.
