I have to get a decent score tonight, from a defense, to win the first FF game of the season. My dilemma surrounds which defense to take.

All are still available in my league, and I can see distinct upshots - and downsides - with each of them.

Washington: Great defensive unit, questionable offensive unit. Opponent, MIN, is pretty weak - but you never know if new QB Johnson won't spark things up a bit.

Minn: Lackluster defensive unit, but Washington's offensive is very weak.

SDG: Aaron Brooks turns it over a lot, but so might Philip Rivers - creating easy scoring opportunities for OAK. Steve Foley, starting LB for SDG, was shot three times last week and out for the season.

OAK: Worst choice of the four. No way.

Who do you think I should choose and why?

I would go with the Chargers. Brooks is good for 2-4 turnovers a game. I see the Chargers returning a int or fumble for a TD. I am starting them tonight with confidence.

Being a Saints fan, I can tell you the Brooks is a turnover machine. The Chargers have great young defenders such as Shawn Merriman that will cause havoc for the Raiders offense. Go with the Chargers tonight.

You have analyzed it well, already.

Washington stuffs the run, and has a gambling secondary. I would expect a low scoring game as well.

San Diego last year put the clamps on Jordan. Like you, I'm not sure their offense is going to keep the defense off the field for long stretches. Their secondary really sucks.

Minnesota is kind of an unknown commodity.

Washington is a safe bet I think. In order of preference: WAS, SD, MIN, OAK

Good luck!

San Diego - they were a top-rated defense last season, and their defense will be depended on to keep them in games until Rivers gets comfortable with the offense.

Out of those four, choose Minnesota. Portis likely won't play, so they'll be relying on the arm of Mark Brunell to carry them. That should be enough to convince you that the 'skins offense isn't much to be feared. Start the Vikes.

Washington has the greatest promise of the four.
