I am young, and I feel weird being called Mrs., but will being called that make the kids (K-12) take me more seriously? I was thinking Ms., but i want to be taken seriously, and i AM married. What do you all think?

I'd go with Mrs. It establishes that you are an adult. The students don't know your exact age, and it's none of their business. I would think Mrs. would command a bit more respect from people.

You can try to have them call you Mrs., but most of the kids will actually say Ms. or Miss! Certainly write on the board Mrs. Lastname, but accept whatever happens, as long as a title and last name is included. I've even been called Mom by 14 year olds (and boy, are they embarassed....)

I started teaching high school when I was 21 and felt much like you are describing. The first time a student said Mr. -- I didn't even realize he was talking to me. But you get used to it. I think it's necessary to maintain a distinction and Mrs. is a sign of respect. As a sub you're going to see new kids all of the time so a title is even more important--you aren't going to have time to build a relationship in most cases, so starting off as Mrs. is a good thing. And don't worry--you'll get older and feel the title fits.

When I started teaching I felt the same uncomfortable feeling with the name. I am not married, but I didn't like being called Mrs...it reminded me of grandma...but its necessary. And as you gain experience, you will see that they seem to call you anything from Ms. to Miss to Mrs. to their actual teacher's name. Choose Mrs. and go with it. It will grow on you.

Honestly, kids don't give a crap what you're called. Half the time they can't keep the terms straight anyway. I'm married and they still say "Miss." It's just faster. Use "Mrs." for professional purposes, but don't freak out if the kids don't refer to you as such.

Since you are married, you should be called Mrs. and you will get used to it.

You should be called Mrs. Miss is for someone who is single, and Ms. is the catchall generic one if you aren't sure. But you are married, its Mrs.

Mrs. Be sure to stand up straight, and when you're addressing an individual student, look him or her right in the eyes.
