I had one that lived to be almost five years old! His name was Red.
More than likely you have a male, few pet stores sell females. I would read about mating by checking out websites made just for betas that's how I learned about mine and have enjoyed having betas around ever since! Otherwise, I would be typing forever about general care and breeding! hahaha

Betas normally live from 2 to 5 years, but can live to be as old as 8 years.

I had a beta and I cahnged the water frequently. He lasted 4 years.

I don't really know but mine lived for like 3-4 years. If you want to mate them ask a guy in the pet store they should know.

As long as you keep them separate from each other (because they tend to be aggressive) then it has greater chances of surviving it's life expectancy. What is the life expectancy...now that I do not know. Sorry!

2.5 years, I've heard. Mine lasted 1.5 years, but I don't know how long he was on the shelf before I bought him.

about 3 years for the average betta,,,,,,and if you didn't know this yet,,all bettas are about 1 year when you buy them at the pet shop..
