On this the 5th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, I see a lot of people quietly mourning our nation's loss, treating the whole anniversary with sentimentality and grace. All the while, all I feel is anger and frustration.

I'm angry with the fact that the man who perpetrated these awful crimes is still wandering around somewhere and living as though nothing ever happened. I'm angry that our government has not done more to catch Bin Laden. I'm angry that the administration has choosen to sacrifice my brothers and sisters in the name of "fighting terrorism" and "spreading democracy" while nothing more is being done to bring Bin Laden to justice.

I'm frustrated that I still do not understand completely WHY this tragedy happened... why do the middle easterns hate Americans so much? I am a good person, why do they hate me? I'm frustrated that the media has censored opposing points of view and does not present to the American public the Muslims' reasons for the attacks.

Am i wrong??

All you need to do is review the history of US policies in the middle east. the fact that the US supports the Israeli military and the 10 years of consistent bombing in Iraq are two reasons I can think of.

I am not in anyway saying that the murder of innocents, whether done by a mighty military or individual guerillas is a good thing, however, there are plenty of reasons why the US is considered Big Satan.

This will never hinder American aggression, though. Too much money to be made.

I don't believe you're wrong at all. Although I didn't lose a friend or loved one on that horrible day, I'm having a tough time dealing with it today. It's funny how so many people here have posted that today is just another day.

I hear you - I'm a good person too. I live an honest life, have respect for others and I practice acceptance rather than hatred. And, I know many, many people who live their lives as I do. What I've come to realize though is that, collectively, we as Americans are a pretty hated bunch. Which leaves me asking the question - well, WHY? Is it jealousy, because the United States has the freedoms it has? Is it because of our economic wealth?

This morning, watching a 9/11 anniversary special on television, I saw a close-up clip I had never seen (or heard) before of Flight 175 as it hit the second tower. It made me physically ill. Honestly, I threw up after I saw it.

I believe that just as the way we treat other PEOPLE comes back to us, (both good and bad), the way we, as a nation, treat other nations also comes back to us. (That's NOT to say that the events of 9/11 were justified.) Which leaves the question - does the average American citizen really know what our elected government officials are really up to? Is our government acting in ways as to promote peace - or hatred?

I read the other day that Osama's group calls the US infidels because, as an entire nation, we don't practice the Islamic faith? So, because we have different beliefs, the response to that is to hijack planes and ram them into buildings? And this somehow glorifies God?

My point is, I think there is alot going on here that the average American just doesn't understand. When that awful day happened, I just didn't realize until later that the events of that day didn't exactly come as a surprise to our government.

I have to say I feel more frustrated and sad over the events of that day. Sad that so many lost their lives, just going about their day. Sad that those left who loved them will never be the same. Sad that world powers don't seem to have a clue as to how to learn to live together in peace.

There's alot more to the events of 9/11 than the powers that be are telling us. Let them tell it though and it's like, "...I don't know, I was just sitting there, listening to these kids read and this guy whispers something about a plane in my ear...".

I think alot of us would like to know why. No sugar-coating - just an explanation as to how the behavior of those responsible for the international dealings of this nation might have contributed to the events of 9/11 being able to take place at all. In the meantime, it's just very, very tragic.

Why we are hated- We are the center pillar of capitalism in the West and as such have had a colonizing presence in the Middle East/ Persia for nearly a century. For instance, we along with the British decided that it would be a good idea to grant the area of Israel, which was at the time (1940's), inhabited by muslims, christains and jews, as a haven state for the jews- not a multi-representative democracy for all the land's inhabitants, but a fulfillment of Biblical/Torah prophesy. Just on that one point, fanaticism can be fueled.

No you are not wrong. I think there are a lot of people who feel exactly the same way. I can really relate to your feelings about hate. Why do people that I don't even know hate me and even worse my children? It is so scary to think that someone would kill you just for being you.

yeah its better to be angry than sad...especially if you dont know anyone that it happened too.... I hate that people can do something like that and get away with it but everyone should try to stay strong or else our country will fall apart.
