I am planning to examine the decline in theatre as an art form and what the average person would pay to see on stage. I plan to use the results to create a play that will bring people back to the theatres because it is what they have asked for and not because it is what some pompous practitioner wants them to appreciate. Please take the time to answer genuinely about what it is that you would pay to see - not a specific play, but rather a type of entertainement or a mood or feeling that would excite you. For example, 'I would go to the theatre to see a play about a maniac with a chainsaw' is an entirely appropriate answer and so is, 'I would pay to see a play about the plight of Sudan'.

You know, not much changes with us humans! Love, death and war are always big hits. Don't get to political unless you plan to use a lot of humor! Most people go to the theatre to ecsape the stress of every day life, and go on an adventure. It is the job of the story teller to interest their minds, open their hearts and tingle their toes as they go on a the ride being performed before them. Not only does the story blot need to be captivating, but the characters need to be strong, as do the actors.

Bottom line, do something different that humans can relate too.

Good Luck

it is not an hassle-free artwork I even have 2 great books at domicile. purchase them, they are going to be your writing bibles. Scriptwork (via David Kahn my former professor) and Donna Breed. additionally purchase forwards and backwards via David Ball you will would desire to have an intensive undertstanding of the dynamics of a play script. Font use 12 pt cases New Roman it extremely is common to examine, exhibit performs artwork in courier. point guidelines (till you thoroughly understand theatre (like David Mamet) and have a sparkling imaginitive and prescient of the circulate i does no longer incorporate them, many directors do no longer use them. some playwrights pass loopy with description of circulate some inform you no longer something. yet FYI point guidelines are from the actors POV till now you attempt to jot down a play you will desire to observe and look at many so which you recognize the form. it does no longer injury to take part in some community theatre so which you have an more advantageous sense of the artwork variety. Take a playwriting type, community colleges furnish them each and all of the time. It additionally does no longer injury to examine the Poetics via Aristotle. won't have the ability to tell you what the objective audience needs however the marketplace needs extra areas for women human beings, women human beings actors a great deal outnumber the boys.

I would love to see something intellectual....something such as a debate on religions....this is very "in the times" right now, and it amazes me how we are supposed to be able to battle two forces that both beleive they have the right answers. So, Id love to see maybe a comedy of errors regarding religion, or maybe something a bit more dramatic?

Good luck. Noble project.

personally for myself i'd like a play that had a fantasy or sifi theme or idea in it - like time travel or alternet universe... or even some kind of mythical creature that was banished or something to live as and w/ humans & is found out or something like that... you don't really see this kind of stuff onstage and i'd love to see real people, live, right there in front of me takeing part in this kind of story line rather than just seeing yet another movie about it... also i'd like to add that what ever you decide to do i'm sick (as are most of my friends) of a happy, everything turns out perfect, ending... please what ever your play's about let it have some really good sad / depressing parts also some really good showings of anger wouldn't hurt.... make it more like 'real life' noone's always happy and a lot of times life won't end up perfect...

i wish you the best of luck w/ this!!
just please as a last note write something different that you don't normally see onstage :)

Something about redemption. Perhaps an ordinary person who falls from grace and gets a second chance. Something that people could relate to. Nothing too dramatic.

I'd go to the theatre and pay to see how the top of the heirachy takes advantage of the lower heirachy.

A romance science fiction - if it was really good and well written I would definitely pay to see it. You don't necessarily need Star Wars special effects to tell a good story.

It doesn't really matter the theme, but something with a lot of irony in it - maybe a modern day Greek tradegy of some sort.

I would pay to see a murder mystery play, they have suspense and you could even stage the murder on stage. Use clues and twists and your audience will be on the edge of their seats!
