I need something that I can apply to curbs and bricks, I am having trouble with weeds constantly, I pull them but befor I know it they are back. The places I am concerned with do not have any grass or plants so I can use something that will kill all vegetation, I was hoping to find a home-made remedy rather than something like "Roundup"

For an herbicide that won't poison people, pets, or the environment try the following formula.

1-gal. 10% vinegar
add 1-oz. orange oil or d-limonene
and 1-tsp. liquid soap or other surfactant

This preparation will kill plants indiscriminately, so take care with over-spray!

Round Up really is the most effective way to get rid of your weeds. It is non selective and does not persist in the soil and so far there have not been any bad things noted from using it.
Early next spring purchase a "pre emergent" herbicide - comes in granules - that you can sprinkle between your bricks and no seeds will germinate. You could also use a soil sterilant, but with great care so it does not translocate.
Check with your garden centre for the last word.

Ya know, I had a neighbor that used to "pick" the weeds out of his brick sidewalk, and spend hours at it with a screwdriver.

Well, every time I would hear about something, I would tell him...

Round up...
Gasoline and oil (aged)...
Salt...
Tar Paper...(suckes the nitrogen right out of the plants on a hot day, and will kill them in a few minutes, when layed over them).
Bernzomatic torch, (just burn them suckers out, and forget about picking them, see a plant, burn it out and it stays that way for awhile).

As long as you have soil in a crack, there is going to be a seed of some sort that will find it and germinate. So, elimnate the soil. Cracks, put a caulking, (black mastic you use for roofs), and it wont grow in that. But, get some of the dirt out, the seeds out, and then caulk the crack.

I wish you well..

Home Depot has a weed resistant sand to fill in the cracks. The contractors have given good reviews on this stuff. Also boiling water and salt works.

Use boiling water with a lot of bleach in it - just repeat this until the weeds are all gone - it won't hurt anything and the bleach decomposes quickly.

A strong salt water solution will kill them. Dissolve rock salt in warm water for the best result.

i have seen in garden magazines cool garden blow torches, that simply burn the weed up. i would make sure to get those specific ones though, not just start torching your yard. lol.
