They are great pets if you are willing to put some time into them. There is a lot of misinformation out there about them. For instance someone here answered your question regarding them being nocturnal as true. FALSE, FALSE, FALSE!!!! They are diurnal and this means they are more active during the day and they sleep at night. A lot of what is sold in stores for them as well is crap and sometimes even dangerous (like exercise wheels and balls--can cause spinal problems ABSOLUTELY NOT meant for gp's). The cages sold in stores are way toooo small as well. For much less money you can build your own and it's easy. The best source for info on guinea pigs that I know of is http://guineapigcages.com If you are really considering a guinea pig (should get at least 2 as they are social animals) you should check this site out and get lots of advise and answers to questions there.

Guinea pigs (or cavies) are probably some of the nicest pets you can have.
Ifound my guinea pig slept in the morning and evening, and was awake when I came in from school,
They are fairly good for children as their size means they can be picked up, and they can't then be easily be trodden on. They can also be quite easily trained, and older children love to do this. They also are very nosey and stick their nose in anything that they can, and like to explore. You can also buy toys for them which they like.
The only ptoblem I have found is that they can be noisy, as their squealing is quite loud, and they also need regular vitamin C, such as fruit and veg, so a parent does need to watch this.

Ginuea Pigs are ok but not very exciting or rewarding. I don't think they are nocturnal - the ones we had weren't. We've had all sorts of rodents but the best by far were rats: intelligent, friendly, playful - great really.

Guinea pigs make great indoor pets. If you take time to care for them properly they don't stink. I have 5 and they don't. It takes a lot of special care to keep them healthy. The right food is very important, and money to take them to the vet if they get sick.
They are up and around at different times.

My daughter has 2 guinea pigs , they are smelly unless u can keep them outside which i will do when i get a hutch for them , i think all the small furries are nocturnal .. They are lovely pets easy to handle , dont bite etc and not expensive to feed , just fresh veg and hay .

I used to breed them, no they're not nocturnal (that's hamsters) If you buy them young and handle them frequently they'll get rather tame. They are nice pets to have and can be housed in a hutch inside a shed (in case of foxes)

I ve always had at least 2 and they re great pets. U can even house train them! It s quite smelly when u clean their hutches out and u have to e careful not to cut their claws too short but apart from that I recommend them 100%! Plus I always had mine out and awake in the daytime and it was fine, they were nt sleeping.
