'he seems okay' is a rather poor reason to meet up with someone! didn't you check him out thoroughly before you agreed to the night out? i used to date internet guys as well and i always made sure it was in a safe place like a cafe. anyway, if you feel good enough about the date to give it a go, just be really cautious, eg take a cab rather than him giving you a lift. or would you consider talking to him on the phone to get a first impression of the guy before meeting him? (by the way, it DID take me fifteen dates over a period of two years, but i actually found the love of my life on the internet - hope you'll be as lucky!)

Yes, you should be nervous. It may be ok, but why take a risk. Take a friend with you. Don't go any place alone, keep your cell phone switched on.
It is risky meeting someone 'off' the internet. This person could be anyone. I dont mean to rain on your parade.

In my opinion.. if you don't know this guy. It is the best idea to just meet him there. You can meet him and for whatever reason you can always leave when you are ready. I wouldn't have him pick you up. You don't want a stranger to know where you live. And you don't want to be alone with him until you get to know his character. But, I say have a good time, and enjoy. I wouldn't do anything physical with him, for awhile. Take it slow.

Stay in a public area.
Drive yourself to the event and anywhere else that evening-in other words: do not ride with him until after a few dates.
Tell a friend what you are doing so they know to help you or call for assistance in case something goes wrong.

Not all men that you meet on the Internet are weirdos' ..I have met 2 on FRD, the first one that i met, i found out later on he was married,so i forgot about him,.The second man i met was genuine, but wasn't really my type,,
I wouldn't bother meeting anyone else from the Internet though..

Make sure you tell a friend where you are going and get her to ring you at a certain time..and have a code word when she rings you..for example if you say i'm having agreat time 'that means i'm ok.' And have a code word if you want a quick escape and want to be picked up.
Good luck...i met my man on the internet..and i'm getting married to him!

Take your mobile phone. make sure all your friends and family know where you are and what time you should be home.
Meet somewhere public and dont invite him back to yours until you know him better.
Apart from that, enjoy yourself and take care!
