Because if you have nothing to divide, and dividing by zero is dividing by nothing, the exercise is futile and accomplishes nothing!!

Chow!!

First of all, calculus allows us to dance all around division by zero, because there are times it would be nice to be able to do it. BUT - it is not that it is not allowed, but rather it is undefined. The intuitive answer would be infinity. The smaller the number you divide by, the more pieces you end up with. Divide a pie by a gram, and you get millions of pieces. Divide it by a nanogram, and you get a thousand or million or however many more pieces. Divide by a NOTHING size, and you would expect to get infinitely many pieces. But dividing by nothing truly has no meaning, like the sound of silence or the weight of something weightless, etc.

well, either way u divide,i it'll always equal zero.
5 divided in 0 groups. That would make the 5 that was there, not exist anymore because u would need 0 groups.
0 divided into 5 groups. That would be zero also because 0 has no amount to distribute, so its already 0.

In both ways of writing it, no solution ever exist.

Hope that helps. Mark as best answer please and thank you. =]

Division by 0 is defined to be = infinity. You can see this for yourself by considering the following series.
1/(1/10) = 10 and 1/10 is small, but nowhere near 0
1/(1/100) = 100 and 1/100 is smaller, but still nowhere near 0
1/(1/1000) = 1000 and 1000 is even smaller, but still nowhere near 0

The fractional denominator is getting smaller and smaller, approaching 0 and simultaneously the value of the whole expression is getting larger and larger, approaching infinity.

Forget hypothetical mathematics.

If you had four apples. You cannot divide them between zero friends. Because the friends do not exist. That is why you cannot divide a number with zero.

zero times any number is always zero.

part of division is also mulitplication.

7 divided by 0.. what, when multiplied by 7 will give you something equalling 7 or coming close to it?.. nothing.. its impossible. so we say division by zero is impossible.

Because it is undefined. To understand this better look at the graph of y=1/x and note what happens as x approaches 0.

Think about it, can you take something and divide it 0 times? Its not possible to divide something by 0 because you cannot divide anything 0 times.

Because 0 isn't a multiple of any number except for itself.
