Yeah, Ouch. I just moved to LA. Talk about painted faces and bleached blonde hair everywhere you look. I'm athletic and often don't bother with makeup because I just sweat it off at the gym or riding my bike around. The only times I'll really worry about it are when I'm going somewhere or I'm trying to make good first impressions.

Annoying as the makeup ritual is, it's a big culture thing. If I showed up at a formal event in a floor length dress without any makeup, people would look at me strangely. It's an accessory, like clothing.

But for all that a lot of guys say, "I really don't even notice makeup, why not just go natural?" their actions don't follow their words. I have a lot of guy friends. When I wear makeup, they say, "wow, you look great." Maybe it's because I do it tastefully so you really don't notice what's different.

On a related note, Why do men wear ties? What the heck is the function of a tie?

Some of us do--like me do look natural as without 'paint & make up'.
But, if someone knows about make up and puts it on well , 99 % of the people that see her from 3 feet away will not know she has used it. So, it is possible to use and wear it and 'look natural'.
What bothers me most and maybe you, are the females/ or women who wear far too much make-up, the wrong make-up, make up that is just not appropriate. The word 'painted' does describe many I see on campus, in clubs and elsewhere. They need to clean ( or scrape) at least 90 % off.
Wish more peoplke would ask questions on this topic.

Some women look absolutely stunning with little or no makeup on. The rest of us? We use as much makeup as we can to achieve what others were blessed with naturally! lol

Its about personal style. For everyone, guys and girls, there are many options, such as clothing, jewellery, piercing, hair color and style, and so on. In particular, for women, makeup is another option for personal style, that may help add confidence, may make the person feel more attractive and add the finishing touches to that person's style. So it is about 'you', and how you choose to present yourself.
