Are you talking about regular house flies?? I am thinking maybe not, as you talk of walking through the grass and they swarm?
If it was house flies - then there is something attracting them and you would need to find out what and remove it.
If they are flies just living in the grass perhaps the grass is too long and providing shelter for them? You might try an electric bug zapper before you go for the insecticide - otherwise, visit your local garden centre and ask for something to spray - after all - they ARE the specialists in that field.

there is an organic and organic remedy stated as Gnatrl it really is a Bt that kills fungus gnats interior the soil Or in case you wanna pass more cost-effective use one tbsp of the former school dishsoap like octagon, or toddler/horse/castile shampoo in a gal of water to water your flora with, this would kill the emergeing larva (yet no longer the eggs) Odds are you'll opt to attempt this 4 to 6 weeks reckoning on the infestation
