How could we send a stronger message that we are not going to continuously be affected by terrorist acts?

What would they think if we went ahead with life as usual?

Don't they (the terrorists) get enough free press?

Well.......we could send a really strong message to everyone by taking care of our own, like the gulf coast, education, the war, and the oil and gas companies...wouldn't that be something?

The rebuilding plan is to include a way to memorialize an event that caused so much death and pain to so many people.
The world trade center symbolized the idea of world trade in the US. I am guessing that the terrorists have some problem with the American concept of world trade and to build another centralized place for world trade in the most famous American city would just be to build a new target for terrorist attacks.
A stronger message is adapt and survive. If terrorists don't want to trade with us, we should allow them the opportunity to trade with someone else, so that they can stop feeling the strong desire to kill us.
Just my opinion.

My first gut instinct was to rebuild them exactly EXCEPT to mount anti-aircraft artillery pieces on the roofs.

Then after a lot of in depth media coverage I discovered that the towers had been having trouble renting out all that space and the disaster could have been much worse at full occupancy. In other words, even before 9/11 New York didn't need an office building that size, so it makes sense not to rebuild them as large.

Also, I think it would take more bravery than most people have to work in an exact replica of the towers so even if they could rent out the space employers would have trouble hiring people to work there.

One gal's opinion.

Building on the site of the twin towers would be a fantastic idea. The message it would send out is ´you may attack us, but we will just carry on as normal.´

However, I don´t think it´s a good idea to build something even bigger. I heard a crazy idea about building the tallest building on the planet, at Ground Zero, with laser beams shooting the stars and stripes into space. The message something like this would give out is ´we still think we´re bigger and better than you...come and bomb us again.´

Think it would be a great idea to build something of use their like a hospital or educational facility, with a striking memorial to the victims on the site as well.

Right now unfortunately its all about money to rebuild. its actually a big space of nothing right now. Its so awful to look out on that vast nothing and know that life was so changed, i wish the towers would have been rebuilt even taller. They were a staple to the skyline and the business and tourist communities

They are in the process of putting a new building in the exact spot where the towers once stood. The footings are in so you should see steel going up over the next few months.

The new building is going to be called the Freedom Tower.

Ya, when they do, they should paint giant targets on the sides of them. That's all that will be accomplished by building new ones anyway.
