why is it that most americans have all kinds of flags now everywhere(cars homes) and before 9/11 they didnt care

The same reason they do not send food or money till there is a hurricane. It takes a kick in the as* for some people to wake up and get on board.

There was a feeling of patriotism and unity after 9-11. This was spontaneous, and people simply felt like gettting and flying flags. Arabs Americans, however, flew numerous flags to show their solidarity with other Americans. A year or two later, flag flying was back to pre 9-11 levels

It's a way to show that they support the US.
And I know that many people of non-Caucasian ethnic backgrounds adopted the practice out of self-protection, because of threats that they had received. 9/11 didn't unite the country. It just united the hatred against Middle Easterners and other visually similar ethnic groups

9/11 surpassed any attack we had been through before. It is unbelieveable the damage this attack had not only on the buildings and the lives lost, but on our nation as a whole. If you remember after the attacks, we united as a country, we were not as seperated as we are today.

9/11 was used as a marketing scam by companies to sell flags, it's quite disgusting really.
