I called their NASA AMES research center to get information for my master's thesis and they had such a BAD attitude with me! And for no reason at all. =(

Why is that? Am I taking precious moments away from their busy schedules?

Yes. I work at JPL so I know first hand how it is. Actually, you probably just got someone who was very busy and couldn't or didn't want to help you. There are those types at every business. Dn't lose heart. Call a different department or someone else.

Call the Education Division at NASA HQ in Washington. They are super at helping people such as yourself. If they don't have the answer they will get you contacts at different NASA facilities. You may have just gotten ahold of the wrong person or dept. at Ames.

I am a teacher and have dealt with Washington many times with no problem. I haven't called for about a year so this number may not be current but try 202-358-4450.

I savour your question. that's so typically not straightforward to discover sensible questions. besides, there are already numerous sturdy factors printed as to why NASA might want to proceed, and that i'll make a pair of my own factors. in assessment to money spent for conceal, for which plenty is going to coming up guns technologies, NASA's money is spent on issues that are inherently meant to bigger proper humankind, how will you discover fault with that? authentic, NASA isn't continuously efficient, yet no employer is. The objective of any NASA progression is to make something more desirable reliable, faster, safer, and oftentimes more desirable proper. also, the authorities can't probably wish to sparkling up all the international's issues. do no longer ignore that the money the authorities spends comes from the persons. With the large means conglomerates posting record income shouldn't they be those to do severe and dedicated study into determination fuels? They, in spite of everything, have the most to attain in gaining knowledge of new means technologies... and the most to loose in the adventure that they fall behind.

hmm , perhaps you called the wrong kind of people at NASA.

Dont be hurt by what someone said to you because they probably dont know you.

People at NASA are supposed to be intelligent , however really intelligent people i believe should always be friendly. I hope you dont get hurt at what someone said on phone.

You can always try other channels if you want information like the internet. Google will sometimes provide even more information than NASA.

So dont be sad . Cheer up buddy . And good luck for your thesis.

What is your research topic? If you find the names of people working on the things you are interested in they will be very happy for an interested audience, in general. If you go calling up NASA Ames looking for something that no one there studies, they will feel you are wasting your time by not doing better legwork in selecting someone who can answer your queries.

Try looking up your topic in the ADS abstract server:
http://adsabs.harvard.edu/abstract_service.html

Get some author's names and then google them, or look them up in the astroperson list ( http://adsabs.harvard.edu/search_persons.html ) or in the AAS directory.

Of course if you are asking some non-starter question like "Why do you cover up UFO findings?" or something similarly quackish or belligerent, you will get a belligerent reply.

I think it must have been the person you were talking to. All the people I've ever met from NASA have all been very nice and gracious with their time. But then I usually deal with educators, perhaps there's a difference?

Who is "they?" If you spoke to several rude people at AMES, then your assessment of a bad attitude would be justified. If you only spoke to one person, then it seems that someone like you who's working towards a master would have enough intelligence to realize that judging an entire organization on the rudeness of an individual isn't really justified.

nope.
sometimes they get work load so they dont answer ppl nicely. or may be that guy had a fight with his wife that day or with his boss....lol...jk

but dont worry contact them again. may be that time u can get a friendly person on phone. and try to call general inquries department or something. don't call technical or other departments like that. sometimes they dont like to answer student's questions because they get lot of calls from university and college students.
