Does anyone know a way that I could go about becoming a bartender without going to school for it?

You don't need school to become a bartender. You can start as a bartenders helper or a waitress and work your way into it. Some even start out in small bars with no experience and learn on the job while working with another bartender. I find as a waitress, you learn all you need to know about being on the other side of the bar, so when you become a bartender, you have a really good idea about what the waiter/ess expects from you. Talk to a couple of bartenders and they will tell you how they got started.

Just go around to different bars and night clubs and apply. Theres more than likely some place thats looking, especially if you're hot.
The majority of the places I've talked to say that bartending school really doesn't help out alot in their hiring procedure, and frankly is a waste of money. The only way to learn is to actually get out there and do it.

I started out knowing someone who worked in a bar and then got hired there knowing little about it I got a book that you can find at any book store called bar-tending for dummies and It had all the drink recipes in it. I studied those and if I didn't know how to make something I told the customer if they told me what was in it I would make it, then I would write it down and kept a little cheat sheet with me until I memorized it which didn't take long. Then through the employer I was tips trained. So not everyone expects you to go to school for it, where I live that isn't even heard of.

It would help if you had bar/restaurant experience as mentioned perhaps as a waitress.
As for going to school, I bartended for a lot of years and the truth is unless you are working in a really posh place you don't really need to know how to make a bunch of cocktails. I mean do you really need to go to school to learn whats in a rum and coke or a gin and tonic? Save your time and money don't go to bartending school.

DON'T got to bartending school...most good bars would laugh you out of their bar if you came w/ a "diploma". Best thing to do is get hired on at a restaurant, get some experience and work your way up!

Most places require schooling because of the liability of serving alcohol to patrons. Try a small mom & pop type bar you may have a better chance of learning the trade without the need for school

Get a job in a restaurant that has a decent bar and start there. Some, you will have to be a server first, but you can work your way into the bar itself, that's what I did, and now working in a very prominent bar making great $$!

Lots of chain restaurants will train you to bartend, especially if you are a good server already.
