Ignore them. You don't need to do either, lip syncing is a piece of p*ss my friend when you know how. Its all about timing - you trigger the animation at specific times in the sound. The best example can be found here:

You would need to have sync points in the sound sample you were playing, and a way for actionscript to detect them; not sure how you would go about that.
