I know how you feel...i'm 40 weeks + 1 day today and have been having contractions for the past 2 weeks on and off, recent ones being absolutely horrible. I've had my membranes swept 3 times now and have been trying nipple stimulation for the past couple of days with no success yet. To be honest i'm giving myself a break today as I did it all day yesterday and the day before. The contractions can come pretty much immediately with nipple stimulation and are pretty hard and fast. Mine were (at one point) 3 mins apart for an hour and then when I stopped the stimulation they stopped too. I thought that my water had broken yesterday and so went to the hospital to check it out only to find that I had stayed at three cms from the last time I had my membranes swept...so all those contractions for 2 days and no progress, i've kind of given up out of frustration. On saying this though I guess everyone is different. Some say that nipple stimulation works first time for them, just not me. I'm exhausted from the lack of sleep like you and the pain from the contractions. As for the method the midwife has said to roll the nipple between thumb and index finger for 5 mins then rest for 3 mins. Sart again and rest for 20 but when I tried this it didn't really do anything. I enede up doing it continuously for a few hours resting when I had a contraction...you can tell i'm desperate for this little one to be born!!! I hope it works for you if you try it....good luck.

You should not induce labor until you are at least 38 weeks pregnant for the health of the child. You should check with your doctor or midwife before you decide to induce your labor using nipple stimulation. The contractions that are caused by this sort of stimulation are often longer and stronger then a normal contraction.
That being said:
you do not actually massage the nipple, you massage the areola, this can be done by your partner sucking your breasts or by yourself using a gentle rolling motion on your areola.
You should only massage one breast at a time for no more then 5 minutes at a time.
wait 15 minutes before massaging the other breast.
Stop stimulation while you are having contractions
do not do this if the contractions are coming in less then 5 minute intervals
Good Luck

The prosteglandin in a man's ejaculate, combined with the muscle contractions during an orgasm, will help to induce labor. Also, castor oil and/or spicy food can bring on contractions but be aware! Both castor oil and spicy food can give you heartburn, and in the throws of labor, the last thing you need is more irritation. If all that doesn't work, get yourself to the hospital and request prosteglandin gel, an ointment that is inserted into the vagina to stimulate labor, but carries with it less complications than pitocin. Good luck!

No, nipple stimulation is to toughen up your nipples so that it won't hurt so bad when you start nursing (which the pain will pass in a brief time- just gotta stick it out awhile then it doesn't hurt at all). Use a towel rubbing briskly across the nipples. Please don't use that pump! Let nature do it's job! You probably know that the contractions you are having are Braxton Hicks (sp?). You are almost there, dear. Can you walk along a beach or lake in ankle deep water? If your Dr. will strip your membrane it will speed up the process. Usually they do that without asking..stings a second and you'll say, "What was that? What did you just do?" PLEASE don't rush this! The baby is in there finishing up some last minute development, getting ready, and before you know it, you will be holding that little bundle of joy in your arms. Savor the moment. Put pillows all around and under you in the recliner, bed or couch. Can hubby give you a message?...Maybe with a rolling pin on your lower spine? Hang in there. you are special. Congratulations!!!!!
NO NO NO!!!!! DON'T YOU DARE DRINK CASTOR OIL! That person is giving me a heart attack here, LOL! Just don't do anything and let nature take it's course. Kick your feet up and have a nice cup of herbal tea. Jeez, you are scaring me.

Nipple stimulation does cause contractions, so does an orgasm. But I don't know if it would be strong enough to toss you into labor.

For real...have sex...the chemicals in his sperm help open things up in there. The doc told me to do that because I was 2 weeks over...

Do it until labor begins and do it in a round circulation motion.

My friend with all 3 of her kids did this, drink a teaspoon of castrol oil (sp?) then wash it down with a 20 ounce coke. You will be in labor in no time.
