I recently added an Aeroflow muffler to my Nissan 200SX.
From before and after DYNO I went from 141hp to 146hp.
It's only 5-horsepower but it all adds up.
Check it out.. http://www.aeroexhaust.com/aero_turbine_2540i.html

If it's matched up well to the air intake, you can increase the power slightly, but even less than the intake.
Those big bean can exhausts will actually lose you power, because the engine cannott get the right back pressure. All noise - No go.
For the best performance look at having the engine blueprinted, and changing cams and rockers for lightweight performance balanced. Then look at chips. After all that then you'll have a true requirement for intake and exhaust mods.
Also remember that you need to increase your stopping power as well.

depneds on make mode l of car...soem headers can actually increase the HP by getting the excess exhaust out faster..but --can also decrease efficiency and sometimes HP if designed incorrectly--lowering the backpressure too much).--try borla exhaust for more info

I put headers on a 2.0 engine and got a noticeable performance increase. Their not expensive and you can get them at your local auto parts store. Good luck!
