Windows XP firewall is worthless.
AVG antivirus' free edition is gud, Yeah, u'll get it at download.com.
Spybot and AdAware are best free anti-spywares.

ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite 6.5.7 is the best firewall, you can get it for free from:

www.phazeddl.com
You can also get good Anti- viruses (such as Spyware doctor, Norton System Works) on the above given websites.

I recommend zone alarm, have been using it for years. As for the antivirus, I'm not sure, I use symantec corperate version so its not free.

Win XP comes with one. Go to Start, Control Panel, Windows Firewall to turn it on. If you have a hardware router, it comes with one as well.

you will need anti-virus as well so go to http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/lng/us/tpl/v5 they also have Ewido anti spy......both free
