Doctors make no money off the pharmaceuticals. Unfortunately, everything has side effects, its a matter of find the medication that works best for you. If you do not trust your doctor to do this, get a new one! You should feel comfortable asking your doctor questions and be able to be honest with him. I highly recommend you getting the book "Healthcare for Less" by Michelle Katz. This book will help you through this process, putting everything into simple terms and help you save money in your healthcare. You can get it at your local Barnes and Noble for $15 or on www.amazon.com for about $10.....this will help navigate your way through the system, and get you a doctor you can trust.

Doctors study drugs and try to decide which is best for any problem.
When they prescribe something they understand it may have side effects but the drug company representatives tell them to keep using it and the side effects will fade. That is what they say, but I think it is not always true.
Doctors have very narrow guidelines they must follow so as to determine what works and what doesn't. People need to understand what is behind the doctors thinking and work with that. Also, some medications should not be halted suddenly, patients should taper off slowly.
May I suggest you go to google or other search engine of choice and enter zetia +side effects. See if yours is mentioned, and learn if it is interacting with something else you might be eating or taking. And see if you should slowly taper off or quit cold turkey.
There are foods that can help lower cholesterol naturally. Most of them are the dark green and the orange colored ones. Broccoli, green beans, peas, carrots and squash.
Hope that helps.

The problem is cholesterol and triglycerides, and the mulitude of problems they will bring you in the future.
Of course you don't see the problem now...
They are just abnormal blood work...
And you probably had some diarrhea, and abdominal upset...
That would be worse than some phantom numbers.
I'm not saying there aren't terrible side effects to every medication, there are.
But why do we continue to prescribe medications? Because you have risk factors there for damage, and we try to save people and make them healthier... If you choose to not take the medications and keep your values high ( Which have been factually and research proven many times over to cause many health problems) then that would be documented on your chart, and if you had a heart attack, or stroke, etc.. then you would not be able to blame the doctor for liability.

So they can make money. The drug companies push the doctors to sell their products.

See another doctor, the one you are seeing now is not listening to you. There are other drugs available to treat high cholesterol.
