Think about it..White kids say they want to be doctors, lawyers, fireman, police officers and astronauts. Black children are led to beleive they can obly be rappers or professional sports stars.

What happened to the role models for black kids? Little girls are more likely to say they want to dance in a Jay-Z video than say they want to be Oprah. Little boys see these rappers and think that is a good life. The don't realize they are being showed a false image to sell records.

I honestly don't know how any parent could let there child aspire to be a rapper or an athlete. Look at how these fools act!! Rape accusations, shooting on another, rampant drug use, abuse and mis-treatment of women and genral uneducated behavior.

Is this the kind of Thing we want for our kids?

To Turtle: If you think the question is obselete, than why waste my time and yours crafting an answer. Stop and think about that.

To ktilton12: Once again, you didn't have to answr the question and before you start throwing around the "get your facts straght" and the "get educated" moniker around, you need to make sure your response is legible and is ,itself, intelligent.

Nice to hear this from another black person...

No, a man who sold drugs and was shot 9 times and sings about it is not a role model. At least, not a role model I want my children to aspire to be....
Problem is, in the society, who else are there for black kids to look up to? Half the time, it certainly isnt their parents. The rest of the time, it certainly isnt the available role models. So who is left???

I think that they're role models now. When they were on the grind (selling drugs, shooting people) a few years back I would say no. They have helped out a lot of communities and tell young black boys that theres more out there then dealing drugs and standing on the corner. Sometimes you have to go through the bad and ugly to get where you are today.

STOP!! now you think about it, are there any black doctors?, lawyers?firemen, cops, even mayors?? YES there are it's not a white black thing, its an irresponsible parent thing. nurturing your children to be the best they can be at whatever they want to be is the key. if you show your kids that rapping to music is the way to go, thats the way they'll most likely go... show em a doctor, lawyermayor... thats the way they'll most likely go. black kids have role models just as white kids do, how many white kids grew up wanting to be like mike?? ( jordan for you dummies) try getting off your soap boxes with this black white thing and start realizing that the future is a whole planet of brown people intermixed soooo much there will be just one race, BROWN!! then this question will be even more obsolete than it is today and we can hate one another for who we are instaed of what color we are. theres positive rolemodels wherever you look, but the most important role model in any childs life is you!

I have to correct you on one thing not all black kids want to be a rapper or athlete. There are some caucasions who wish to become rappers. My two brother are examples one is in Tulane Medical School the other just graduated from Southern University in Education he is a teacher you need to get the facts straight

You need to read and educate yourself on the matter after all there is no need to worry about the blacks we are not threat we are only 12% of the nation. We here to entertain people like U.

i think you should give us more credit

yes humans are dumb - but if parents do a proper job they'd let their kids know, that that is just frontin - that that sruff is not real, and that being a rapper is ok, as long as you dont get caught up in the negitive stuff!!

rap is supposed to be about skill, about writting soulful rhymes about things that are relative to your life, theres no shame in having a career in that as long as you have the talent - go for it

hello Tupac!!!! - he was real! and he died for it, and sometimes its like he died in vain, cos a.s.ses like T.I and 50 do rap about shiit,

Jay-Z - most of his stuff is real, there are a few commercial ones tho, i have to admit - but "hes not a buisness man, he's a businessman!!!" - Jay-Z has taken it to a whole nother level, he's build an empire, and you have to have brain cells to pull that off!!

i think he's ok as a role model - success in whatever you do is always something to strive for - and he's there!!

They are not role models and never signed up to be. Just because they have a job that entertains a segment of the population and are in the public eye, doesn't automatically make them 'role models'.

They aren't our kids teachers, they aren't our kids parents. They make music. That's their responsibility. Making music. Not being role models for children.

nope i don't think so.......mostly because they're singing is unrespectful to other stars and because what they're doing isn't right for kids to follow.......i mean doing drugs and drinking just because they in hollywood and they're "famous" doesn't mean they have to teach/ show kids it good.....crazy!!
