37 weeks is considered full term but doctors like to go to at least 38.
Most babies are developed enough at 34-35 weeks but don't have the layer of fat to keep them warm. I had a 34 week baby who was able to come home 2 days after birth and her twin just lacked the suck-swallow-breath relflex so she had to be tube fed for 2 weeks after birth. Both are healthy now at 4 1/2.

40 weeks is classed as full-term but a viable birth is after 22 weeks as they have a chance if only small of surviving as long as the baby is given steroids to develp the lungs and it is a fighter. more and more are surviving pre-term due to technology. my daughter was classed as pre-term and she was only 12 days early and very healthy, the last 8 - 6 weeks of pregnancy is the baby putting on weight everything is just about ready. some babies born at 34 weeks need no intervention and others do it all depends on mother nature!

I do believe that 38 weeks is considered to be a full term baby. At this point the baby is fully developed, he/she may just be slightly underweight. Instead of an 8 lb baby you may have a 6 lb baby.

A full term pregnancy is 40 weeks. The general rule for a healthy baby can be +or - two weeks from your due date.

A baby is considered full term at 37 weeks of age. by this age their lungs are fully developed, they have the substance called surfactant which is needed for them to breathe on their own. some baby's lungs develop earlier than that, but 37 weeks is full term

I think 40 weeks although babies born 2 or 3 weeks early are usually fine.
