I have. I have a friend that I've known since grade school. We're in our early 40's now. We have never ever been anything other than best friends.
He and I are so close that my husband made him his best man at our wedding and we named one of our sons after him. My husband was his best man at his wedding. We're just one big happy family now.

This is a bit different. My "ex" (we never married) just fit together, intellectually, emotionally and so on. I was a sophomore and he a freshman in college. He pursued me and I was flattered. Tho' we never married we were together for almost 13 yrs! (Thankfully, we never had kids).

I realize now that it was mainly because of our common interests and the fact that we got along so well, later, as "roommates", that we stayed together so long. Yes there was sexual interest, but not real passion. And yes, we had fun but nothing like the "I must have you or I"ll die!" feeling (which i have with my husband now).

My Ex and I tried to remain friends, but for some reason, it didnt' work. I guess we'd drifted to far apart. That is so common when you get together really young!

Eventually, we experimented with "open relationships", big in the '70's and '80's and he found a chick, who, tho' not his soulmate, had LOTS of money (knew the Bushes!) and "worshipped" him...and that's what he wanted.

I wanted freedom and had a BLAST all thru the 80's...then in 1994, met my current love. IT was totally different...no question!
We're still together, despite all our problems. I believe, sometimes love...TRUE LOVE... CAN be enough!

P.S...I did have "Just friends" guys I knew earlier, but they always wanted to get sexual! So I don't count them...as I didn't feel the same.

Someone above said, "I didnt' know that was possible" (being opposite sex friends) and I gotta say, being female, I DO agree with that. In my experience, almost EVERY SINGLE GUY I've become friends with over the yrs.has wanted sex in some way!. I admit too, that, unless the guys are total dogs...I've want sex too, (Mostly casual!).

To sum it up...I agree w/ Billy Crystal in "When Harry Met Sally", when he says that "men and women CANNOT be 'just friends'"...(unless they're not attracted to one another!).

IMO, I think we're all being naive about it! Why WOULDN"T this be the case???! Think about it!!!

I've had the same male close friend since I was 16: I am now 40. We've shared pretty much everything, and it's been great. We have tons in common, enjoy hanging out with each other's friends and families, and he adores my daughter. He's been there through my various boyfriends, my marriage, and my divorce.

Two years ago, I started seeing a new man. Around Christmas 2005, he discovered how serious this new relationship is and freaked out. He won't talk to me OR to my daughter and has cut off all contact with us completely. Sure it's disappointing to me, but my daughter is really hurt and doesn't understand what she did to make him mad. I think he had hopes that our relationship might be something it wasn't. He's been like a brother to me and I thought I'd always made that clear.

Until recently, I thought heterosexual members of the opposite sex could maintain long-term platonic friendships. Now, I'm not so sure!

There are plenty of it here on our part of the globe..
classmates from gradeschools to college, then have our ways, Some have married,, but then, everynow and then, during alumni or we met somewhere else go to places as a group, or spend the night together, singng, dancing, drinking..
We still have it until now, so many have already retired, but the friendship continues.

You're talking about after you guys had sex right? Are you kidding me? As long as one person some thoughts about screwing you the other person it's not a true friend. Get real.
