The first things you have to do is make peace with the idea that your hotel is going to have an element of surprise in it.
Then you have to decide where you want to go and when.
Next go right to http://www.priceline.com/ and give the dates.
Choose a 3+ star hotel, and go to name your own price.
Then, put in a rediculously low price, like $50.
If they don't take it at $50, up it by $5, and try again.
Keep this up until you get accepted. You have to take whatever the choice is, but, believe me and all the other people on your post, you won't be sorry. I have never paid more than $75 a night (and sometimes a lot less) and gotten hotels that were over $200 per night otherwise.

Trust me, once you do it this way, you'll never never do it any other way again.....ever. And no, I don't work for them LOL!

I'd go to Priceline. I get great deals on rooms. You can request the quality you want and start your bid low. You can always go higher if your bids aren't accepted. I have gotten 3 star hotels for $40, I swear.

You can go to hotwire.com or go to priceline.com and try to make a bid.
Beware of priceline; there is a no refund/no exchange policy
