Which theme park do you want to see? From my experience, if you want to go to Universal or Disney, you're better off getting a package deal through either Universal or Disney where you get park passes and a hotel room on the property. Disney has more of a variety because they're bigger and have more theme parks, but one great advantage there is you don't have to worry about transportation -- Disney has monorails, water taxis, and busses that will take you to all the theme parks and the water parks. One thing you'll need to know, however: It's hard to get a bus or a taxi from Universal or Disney to any of the other local attractions, so if you want to do something like that you'll want to rent a car.

you can get good offers by being a florida resident or getting a four day park hopper pass. It really just depends on what you want to do and your budget. But don't get them from the stores on the side of the road as you drive toward the park, I dont think they have that good of prices. If you have time you can look up Disney on the web and go through the different options on your own and see which you think is best.

If you would like to go to just Disney Parks, your best deal is to stay at a value resort there.
If you go to the Disney World website, you can even find out when the "off season" is, and it is a bit cheaper. When you stay on Disney property, you can save the cost of a rental car, as Disney will provide transportation from the airport to the resort, buses, monorail, or boats from the resort to all their parks & Downtown Disney, then they will bring you back to the airport on your day of departure.
I am going next week. I went in September of last year also because they offered the Disney Dining Plan for free when you stayed there. Last year I kept a journal of how much the food would have cost for my son and me and it came to $500.00!! (we ate at some of the more expensive restaurants sometimes, which we wouldn't have done if we had to pay out of our pockets!)

When we went to Florida we purchased our tickets from an Agent and after doing research found this Agent was the cheapest. However, when we arrived in Florida, we went to a Tourist Information Centre for directions to a Shopping Mall, and I got chatting to the Guy in there and he told me the prices of the tickets that they charge and they were a hell of a lot cheaper that what I paid for in the Uk. So my advice is, to get them when you are over there as they work out cheaper, especially as you get more Dollar to the Pound. I know you will have a brilliant time, you can't help it.
