I have windows me and had to reformat. My dvd-rom will no longer play dvd's, but it will play cd's. I don't have the software to reinstall my dvd-rom and I'm unsure of the manufacturer. Does anyone know what to do?

you should reinstall using original software. if it plays Cd's maybe you need a DVD player like sonic or power DVD??? do you have that???
when you format a computer you must have all of the original software and the install discs for your devices. otherwise it's pretty tricky.
One thing you can try. download VLC MEDIA PLAYER. it's got its own codecs. THAT might work.

You can download this program at the link below. Install it and it will identify your DVD drive, then go to the driver's manufacturer's website and download the apporpirate software needed.

you need to find the mfr of the dvd...may have to take the computer apart and stare at it. then go that mfrs website and get the driver. your sure its a dvd player?

u need the specific driver for that model dvd drive. do a search on that model type and look for driver".
by the way....WINDOWS ME is HORRIBLE!
shouldve went with at least windows 2000

install dvd player it must be with the pack which came when you bought your new pc

On the top of the drive should have the name and make of the drive. Then search for the drivers

get the driver & instalet,but if you dont have the driver get the brand & model & get it from download.com
