Hi, I was wondering if anyone else had a problem like this. My daughter started out breast feeding she is only going on 2 weeks old. Well my breast milk did not come in until late. And she became very jaundice. I took her to the doc and they put her on formula until my milk was producing enough. Well I can only give her one bottle of breast milk a day and now she wont latch on because she is used to the bollte! Is there anything I can do to make my milk come in more? Also ever since the formula she will throw it up. It is only about an ounce that she pukes up. But is that OK? Or is the formula not agreeing with her? She takes Ensomill.

Try pumping more. When your breasts feel full try to pump this will help your milk supply. My daughter threw up Similac I had to put her on Enfomil. Isnt the Ensomil a soy product? Talk to your daughters doctor and see what other options there are.

I'm sorry to hear what a hard time you've had. It sounds like you may have gotten some questionable advice from your doctor. Frequent breastfeeding is usually the BEST thing for a jaundiced baby.

Have you talked with a Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) or a La Leche League Leader for some one-on-one help in person? Call the IBCLC at the hospital where you delivered or your local LLL Leader, who may be willing to visit you at home and will help you for free.

How often have you been pumping? You'll need to be pumping or nursing frequently, probably every 2-3 hours, at this age. The best way to boost supply and keep a good supply is to be nursing and/or pumping frequently. It's all about supply and demand.

There are also herbs and medications that can be used to boost supply. Fenugreek is the most commonly used herb and is probably the most effective. (There are a few people for whom fenugreek is NOT a good idea.....check the link below for more information.) The usual dosage for fenugreek is 3-4 capsules 3x per day. You'll start to smell like maple syrup if you are taking enough. There is also a tea called "Mothers Milk Tea" that you can get at your health food store.

Have you tried pumping right before you try to latch her on? Pump until you get a letdown and then offer the breast. She'll get a quicker reward this way and may be more willing to nurse.

Try offering the breast when she is not starving and in a good, calm mood. Sometimes when they are drifting off to sleep or just waking up will work well.

You can try getting in a nice, warm bathtub with her and nursing in the tub as well. Lots of skin to skin contact is good when you're trying to get a baby back to the breast.

I had the same problem with my daughter! At about 2 months she latched on! I don't know why but I just kept trying. There are things that are helpful in bringing in more milk, like oatmeal, make sure your drinking 8 glasses of water a day and I saw a specialist who told me to drink non alcoholic beer because the barley in it would produce milk. Don't drink regular beer because the alcohol is not only bad for the baby but alcohol does the opposite affect. As far as her formula, switch to lactose free, my daughter got sick off regular formula but now at age 2 does fine with regular milk products. Sometimes at that age they have a hard time with the lactose in regular formula. I hope I helped a little bit! Good luck!

Try expressing yourself and persevere with the breast feeding even if she wont latch on at least she will be getting the nutrients form your breast milk but from a bottle. I would speak to your DR about her being sick, but you'll find most babies bring some milk back whether it's breast or formula.

Maybe you should start pumping. You could feed her breastmilk through the bottle. Sometimes this helps your milk come in also. If your milk hasn't came in by now, you should call the dr. They can give you something to help. But if your just not producing much, then be sure to drink plenty of fluids(H2O). Also try to relax and not worry about the production, this also hinders the milk production. Good luck!

Same thing just happened to my sister. She is now just pumping her breast milk and bottle feeding my niece. Formula usually makes baby's puke. Just pump breast milk and bottle feed.

well as far as production try pumping every 2-4 hours to encourage your milk ducts, in regards to the formula some babies do spit up often but just to be safe ask the doc. to be sure and rule out allergies.

Is the puke curdled (like cottage cheese) or is she just spitting back up the formula? If it's formula, not cottage cheese consistancy, then it's projectile vomiting. My daughter had this up until 12 weeks old. Try giving her Soy based formula. It helps minimize throwing up.

Thats fine but I would try Gentlease with lipil to digest with and less gas and fussiness too. Its a perfect formula for babies I only wish I had it when my son was born 6 years ago. Also get a pump for your milk, they're cheap!

My son used to throw up alot, he had reflux, a small gullet/tube to the stomach. With reflux he cried alot because it gives a heartburn sensation to the child. Try not to feed baby too much milk.
