I didn't stop and give a moment of silence or fly an American Flag? Why do people keep asking if anyone will fly their American flag today? Shouldn't it fly everyday?

It's not UnAmerican at all...Doing what you feel is appropriate for you is the most American thing you can do. Nothing annoys me more than fair-weather patriots. They remind me of hypocritical Sunday Saints who build their stairway to heaven by making themselves obvious in their faith at any given moment in public only to sneak to the hotel room to scream their god's name with someone they aren't married to. I remember a neighbor of mine in VA was asked about flying the flag at her house to show her patriotism. Her response..."I am in the Army. I don't need a flag to show my support." Amen sister.

I wouldn't say un-American, just heartless. And I don't mean flying the American flag, I mean stopping to think about all that died. Giving a moment of silence would be the most respectful thing you do. You don't have to fly the flag today, but people are flying it today for the same reason they do on July 4th, because it is a significant day. People don't fly it every day because they don't feel like it's that important to them. Those that do are the ones that are probably pretty proud to be here and love to be Americans.

THESE COLORS NEVER RUN. My flag is out everyday. You may be too young to understand what it is to be an American. However, we ask that you Never forget the attacks of 9-11. Those who died and those who live with the events everyday.
The moment of silence is a show of respect during Memorials. Being a New Yorker and seeing the events take place first hand I show my respect to all who suffered during the attacks, the aftermath and the clean up. My family was directly effected because I have a Police officer in my family & she was stationed downtown during the aftermath, recovery and clean-up. I thank God everyday that my sister is still here and what she did for others.
You can remember in anyway you choose and that is a direct cause of being an American! Freedom!

I agree that it should be flown everyday. Remember right after the attacks on 9/11 how everyone was riding around with flags on their cars, motorcycles, boats, everywhere. All of a sudden everyone was feeling patriotic. That's a good thing, but, we need to continue with that. We can't forget how lucky we are that it was only that day. It could have happened many more times if our govt wasn't being vigilant. I wish Americans would all just come together as one people instead of fighting amongst ourselves over stupid politics. As for what you do today...that is up to you & how you feel. I think we should all just stop for a second today to give thanks for what we have & that we live in a free country.

I think its more 'un-American' to fly the flag on 9-11 and ignore it the rest of the year. If it only matters one day a year, does it really matter at all?

You are right. We should fly it everyday. But the reality is, something horrible has to happen for us to come together as a country. Sad but true. I do have my flag flying as well.

Hi there...some people just fly flags for special occasions like Patriot Day today. My mom is like you and probably won't watch any of the ceremonies today. She didn't know anyone that got killed, but it really saddened her, and she won't talk about it much either. If I try to ask questions about it to her, then she'll switch subjects. I think that if that is the only way for people to deal with it then it is fine, but we can never forget that it happened.
