There are multiple sets available? Is one better than the other?

It depends....if you're a real movie freak, then pick up the big set (four discs per movie)....lots and lots of extras, making-of documentaries, plus the extended versions of all three movies.

The original set (theatrical releases) are okay, and much cheaper, but lack the extended versions, which are better movies, in my opinion.

I think there's a new set out that has both the theatrical, and extended versions, in one. If you don't care about all the behind-the-scenes stuff, then this set would be your best bet.

I purchased the VHS versions of each movie then the extended cuts that came out a few months later.
If you don't already have them on DVD you should get the most recent version, it has both the theatrical release and the extended cuts on one disk, plus bonus disks. They are also much cheaper than when they came out just a few years ago. I believe that the entire set is only $60.00 or so which is much better than spending 40+ on each movie.

Get the "Special Extended DVD Edition", more expensive but worth it if you are a real fan. It has so many extras that you could spend days watching it and not see it all.

The one at the bookstore.....buy the books instead...even the audio book rocked better than the movies. :(

The sets don't matter, just buy whichever one you want...I bought the Special Extended Editions of all three...I didn't see them at the theater & refused to watch until all extended versions came out....man...I wish I would have saved my money & shot myself instead....what a waste.

if you are a hardcore fan i would recommend the extended versions but if you don't want to waste too much money the latest would be the best for you, they include the theatrical and extended versions.
