Everyone on here has made good points, but lighten up people.
She's 17 and wants "to talk to him", I didn't read anything about having sex with him and as far as I know you can be friends with any one you want without the law getting involved.
In Mo. 16 is now the legal consenting age, so in this state, it's totally legal for them to have sex should they decide to take the relationship to that level.
But like the rest of them, I have to agree that you're too young to get involved with a twenty-three year old. Be friends until you're 18 and can be a little more informed of situations like this before jumping in with both feet and your eyes closed.
Also, I would caution you about the "work place romance". Just remember, should you get together with this man, and it not work out, you'll still have to face him everyday at work.

If you both were older, I'd say that it wasn't a big difference, but considering where you both are in your lives (you highschool, him college(or at least college age)). I'm 24 years old and my boyfriend is 29, but considering that we're both adults, I don't think it's a problem. I think you definately need to think about if you and this guy are even at the same stage in life.
If you're still going to talk to this guy, at least don't pursue anything sexual until you're at least 18. Get to know him more as a friend first and maybe in time he'll gain the respect of your family and friends.

Well if I wold have met my now husband at 17 then he would have been to old for me but I was a little older when I met him and he is 20 years older than me and I have been together 17 years and we are still madly in love. So take your time and don't rush into any sudden relationships. If it is meant to be he will wait a few more years for you.

Age ain't nothing but a number. I don't think its too old.
But in some states its child-molestation. You must be over 18 to date anyone over 18. Be careful - your mom could press charges on your "man" if you guys do get together. Keep it on the dl until you turn 18 if you decide to see him anyway.

I was 17 and my man 21 and we are together this month 11 yrs. I think I was to young but that is because I moved in to fast with him so take it slow. Age doesnt make a difference.

i believe your mom thinks he is to old because most 23 yr olds want one thing and your only 17 (so it is illegal in most states). if you wanna talk to him, talk but don't play. you should wait until you're 18 and then he won't get in trouble with the law.

Until you are 18 you don't need to even be friends with a man over the age of 18. Your Mom is right! If your Mom even suspects that the two of you are having sex, she can press charges against him for statutory rape and even if he is innocent (only if you're not having sex with him) it will still be on his permanent record that he was accused...why run the risk? If you like the guy...it'll keep until you're of legal age!

Yes...you are TOO young for him... you have alot of time to get serious with a man. I'm sorry but your mom was right.. You are not even old enough too drink or buy cigs and he is. Date someone that will be on your level.
He might even just use you or try to push your buttons.'
I agree with your mom....

There is nothing wrong with talking to him but anything else can wait until your 18 and if you can wait then it is not worth it. Your mom just wants to protect her daughter and that is something you may not get until later in life.
