In two generations of computer time. They will find that they do not actually need us.
Computers will design themselves, they only will then need bodies (easily designed).
We will probably fight wars about the shape of Baked Beans.
Man wil betray itself to the computer for monitary credits, then we will be a small flame that flared for a while.

It will just like now, only different.
I mean, this is 2006 - for oldies like me, this IS the future. I can remember Sci-fi movies being set in the 1990's!
No one predictor of the future gets it right. A C Clarke, for instance, bangs on about predicting, indeed he would say inventing, satellite communication, but his predictions for the development of computers were way off - when writing in the 1950's , he missed the idea of miniaturisation - he predicted a 21st century dominated by massive computers, with millions of vacuum tubes!
Most science fiction writers or futurologists predict extremes, Utopias or distopias. But look how the world of 2006 has actually turned out - somewhere in the middle. We have loads of problems, terrorism, the environment, but on the other had, there is a lot that is not too bad at all. The grim prophesies of nuclear holocaust, a new ice age, apes taking over etc etc have not materialsed. We don't have the golden age, but we don't have Oceana either. Some things have improved, others declined. Much has vanished, but much remains. People are pretty much the same, good and bad, smart and dumb, true and traitor. So that's what I mean, things will be different in the future, but over all the feeling will be that it's still the same world.
