This day means absolutely NOTHING to me other than to be reminded, once again, of my wife dying 8 days later but by nothing dealing with the WTC disaster.
I am so sick and tired of being beaten over the head about 9/11 this past 5 years that I can not stand to hear any more about it. I feel for those people but, 9/11 was... at best... a Regional tragedy and the constant, almost daily beating of an old news story by the East Coast Media is very tiring.
When my wife died, a few days after those people died... I did the honorable thing... I grieved... and then I got on with my life... I did not and have not constantly beaten everyone over the head with my personal loss... I just got on with my life...
It is my hope that now, on the 5 th anniversary of 9/11, those people who lost friends and loved ones on that day, can put their sorrow to rest and quit constantly beating the rest of us up with their personal loss... and we can ALL get back to living.

I was at work and remember everyone scrambling to get a Internet feed or radio report to get the latest. Needless to say, little if any work was accomplished that day in our Atlanta office.
It should refresh in everyone's mind the feeling that as a country we should stand united against our aggressors. Pity to see the political grandstanding taking place now. Everyone busy affixing blame and not coming up with solutions.

hello, beantown.
what does today mean to me? it means i can't turn on my t.v. it means i feel a unique and terrible grief.
where was i? getting ready for work listening to the radio, my favorite radio announcer cuts in..."uh, listen people, I am not making this up, this is seriously happening, apparently a plane has just crashed into the world trade center"...(that same radio announcer just recently had his *** handed to him for calling n.s.a. rice an "aunt jemimah", and when a certain group of "folks" demanded a public apology, he apologized to aunt jemimah instead. so now, no more favorite radio guy for me. but i digress). went to work late, (had to stare at my t.v. in mortified horror for while), nobody talked about it at work, we just sort of went about the day like zombies. when i came home my now ex-squeeze was there with everyone in the band he was in, drinking beer, it was a practice night, but we all just sort of sat around talking. nobody felt like practicing that night, nobody wanted to go home either. we lived by the airport, so the familiar racket of planes taking off and landing was gone, which made things seem even more surreal. later that week i thought it was ironic how people were sticking american flags on their suv's in an attempt to memorialize all those people who died. they may as well have just spit into the wind.
as to your closing comment, i need to say no, not alive, but dead, not well, but doomed, as we all will be if we keep focusing on the fear. turn your head away, look to what is good and honorable and right in the people around you. hug your children extra today, tell them you love them. let them stay up late, have icecream for dinner, and run amok. take pictures. do something nice for somebody, or whatever it takes to push away the darkness and bring in the light. the light is the only thing around here that is alive and well. the light is life itself. believe that.
in spite of it all, thank you for the question, i guess i needed to vent! peace be with you, friend.

Sorry to wear a "red dress" to the funeral, but 9/11 is just that, another day on the calendar...gotta say, I was happy to have been unemployed and still asleep!
It was a terrible shock (and not really given this country's world policy track record...) but I didn't grieve much then and ain't now!
9/11 was a terrible day in history, not one to be dwelt on or 'pimped' like this Dubya bastard has been doing and used as an EXCUSE to go kill thousands of foreigners!
I'm SOOOO over it...

I was in an eighth grade classroom. I had no idea what was going on.
What does it mean to me? It means taking a look at how fortunate I am because I was not personally affected by the event. It's a day to count my blessings and stop myself from complaining over trivial matters.
