I was sleeping in bed when my roommate told me the country was falling to pieces. I turned on the TV and saw the first WTC tower fall. I felt helpless, then, I did what I could 3,000 miles to help those who could not find their loved ones by looking at posts online, what not and emailing victims families if I could confirm anything.

I got home from work and recall drinking 8 beers as if it were water. I didn't even get drunk from them because my adrenaline level was so high that day.

Lost no relatives. Knew one person who worked on the 102nd floor of the first building hit, but, luckily, he was late for work that day, otherwise, he would have been trapped and would have died.

I was laying on my living room floor with my 1 year old. I couldn't take my eyes off the TV. What really got me was I live in chicago and my Mother works at McCormick Place which on that day was a huge international show and since my Mom is security they wouldn't let her go home. Not knowing if that was going to be next. Even though they evacuated the rest of the buildings!
Thankfully I can say that none of my family or friends were there in New York or any of the other places that day, but I will always remember the lives that were lost on that terrible day!

I remember being at work. I work at a school. A couple kids came in late and said a plane had hit the towers. I told them it wasn't funny. Then I realized it wasn't a lame excuse for being late. I was mortified. The world literally stopped turning. It was a sobering experience. I didn't loose anyone in the towers but I really held on tight to the loved ones I had. I pray for the troops and wish them a safe journey. Maybe we should all have a moment of silence for the soldiers today ,as well as the hero's that died for our country 5 years ago.

In the UK it was about 3.00pm when I heard. I was picking my kids up from school when a guy I knew rushed up, his face white as a sheet, and said his brother had just been ordered to go on standy for immediate action. His brother was in the SAS so I knew it must be something really serious and he described the attacks.

I rushed home with the kids and just watched the whole thing being played over and over again on the BBC News 24 news channel.

Although at the time no-one knew who was behind the attacks, this guy and me both said "Bin Laden" at the same moment and he said "guess my brother will be going overseas again soon". We were right on both counts...

I was in 4th grade, and I was in math class at my elementry school. The day was a normal day: My teachers lecturing, the recess activities, and everything. We hadnt recieved any information. So then, on the school bus home, me and my friend overheard some talking, but we didnt know what was happening. Then, at home, I learned the news: The planes crashed into the twin towers and the pentagon. At first, me being an idiot 9 year old, wondered what the big deal was if no one died. I was badly scolded and told over 1100 people died in the tower. then, 180 people died in the pentagon. Thats when I realized it was of serious importance.

In Northampton, England...at work. Spent the whole night watching the news, wishing I was home in the US for some reason.

i was in bed, sleeping...my mom called me on the phone and told me to wake up because 'the world is falling apart.' she told me to turn on the tv, and i asked what channel...she said it didn't matter...and it didn't. it was on every channel. i saw the second plane hit...i've never felt so helpless and overwhelmed in my life. that was a surreal day. it's weird how it takes something so tragic to make you realize how good we have it in America. flags were everywhere, and i remember stores selling out of them. i was glued to the talking heads of 24/7 news channels for the next month...it really did become this...addiction, i guess. fox news, cnn, msnbc, all of them...all the time.

Five years ago, I had just gotten off the night shift and was home talking to my mom on the phone when my sister beeped in and said "Turn on the TV" and hung up on me.
