1 - It forces employers to either employ less people or raise their prices. Businesses that have minimum-wage employees work on a small profit margin. They can not afford to give people a raise that have not earned it. It creates LESS entry-level jobs for people with minimal skills. Minimum wage hurts the uneducated.
2 - Minimum wage destroys the work ethic. If you started a job at $2.00/hour and worked your way up to $5, 6, or 7/hour, you would have to actually prove your worth before being paid $7/hour, and you would work hard to keep that job so you wouldn't have to start over at $2/hour at your next job. If you are hired in at $7/hour, and the employer can not afford to give you a raise because he must pay EVERYONE $7/hour, you wouldn't care about being fired because every other job out there would also pay $7. Where's the incentive to learn new skills or work hard?
3 - It hurts the poor the most. What companies pay minimum wage? Grocery stores, gas stations, and places like that. Where do poor people spend most of their income? Grocery stores, gas stations, etc. Those stores must raise their prices, and the poor must buy food and other necessities.
4 - Setting a minimum wage disrupts the entire economy. A very small percentage of people actually earning minimum wage are trying to live on it. Most minimum wage earners are kids or housewives earning spending cash. Check out the link below.

It is clearly a detriment to a community to make it unlawful for some people to work. And that is exactly what a minimum wage does: if your work is worth less than the minimum wage to a potential employer, he cannot hire you: no employer can stay in business if he pays people more than they are worth. So, instead of doing something useful, you get to sit around the house and watch Oprah re-runs. I have nothing against Oprah, but there are better ways that you could spend your time if it were legal to do so.

I am for a "reasonable" minimim wage. I own a small trash hauling company, and I pay my people more than minimum wage. But if you own a little ice cream shop, retail business, etc, an unrealistic minimum wage can hurt your business. It may prevent you from hiring additional employees, or even lay off people.
We don't want companies hiring "slaves", 3 dollars an hour. But we also don't need a Big Brother forcing to pay their employees too high wages, monies that we all will probably have to pay in higher prices.
Minimum wages are used by the Democrats to buy votes, quite frankly. Oooh, those evil Republicans, want to pay you less, vote for us and we will give you a raise!
Frankly again, if you are an adult and you have to worry about minimum wage, you have problems a lot bigger than hoping the gvt gives you a paltry raise.

It artificially increases the cost of goods sold. It escalates inflation. It decreases the value of a dollar. It increases the number of persons unemployed. It creates the closure of small business's. And most importantly it assumes the government knows what is best for society. While I agree protections must be in place to keep a few bad apples from abusing workers, I also feel society should determine the value of a specific job. Minimum wage is only one small step closer to socialism.

I am for increasing the minimum wage, but I have heard one reason is that when the minimum wage goes up, it increases the costs for smaller companies. Smaller companies would have to start paying their employees more, so then they'll start laying off or not hiring, which affects the whole community.
I am glad that there are cities that decided to increase the minimum wage themselves without going through D.C. San Francisco was one of the firsts, I believe.

It raises the price of everything. If the store pays the employee more the company raises the price of its good to keep profit levels the same. So it doesnt help anyone. The poor people stay poor and the rich get ritcher. Its life sorry.
