Imagine that a gangster orders you to buy the perfect family comedy movie for him and if he and his family like it you get two million pounds sterling, and if he doesn't, you die.

Under such circumstances, which family comedy movie do you buy?

BTW, when I say 'family comedy' I mean a movie fit for family viewing (ie. with kids and grown-ups) rather than a comedy *about* a family.

Parenthood - an oldish Steve Martin film that I first watched at eleven and my mother still loves.

If the kids are too young for that then Monsters Inc was pretty good even for adults...

Hmm, I'd say there are a few that have that classic blend of entertaining characters/songs for the kids and innuendo for the adults.

Shrek is a safe choice, although I may also add Cars(i'm guessing the gangster will have a fine collection) and Father of the Bride(he'll appreciate the 'protect the family' motif) to the shortlist.

Bugsy Malone hoping that appeals to his need for a family film and his love of the gangster lifestyle. And then I'd hide somewhere and pray.

someone mentioned Finding Nemo, i think thats perfect because the gangster feel is in it as well so im sure the adults would have some fun with it as well as the kids.
