D. Anyone who has ever seen a movie where they struck oil, they'll notice that it shoots out water before the oil. It happens to James Dean in the movie Giant, prompting him later to say to the cattlemen snobs, "I'm a richin... I'm a rich boy.... I'm gonna have more money than you every THOUGHT you could have.... all you and your stinkings sons of Benedict!" Then he gets punched in the nose.
Also if it sank, we wouldn't have any of those pictures of poor pititful animals caked in oil when the Exxon Valdez cracked open.

D. Oil is less dense than water, and floats on top of it. This is why oil spills are so dangerous; the oil floats into a thin film on the surface of the water rather than simply sinking to the bottom, where there are fewer life forms to kill off. If you like, you can get some car oil and some water and mix them together and watch as the oil floats to the top.
